A simple chiropractic adjustment could reduce your blood pressure. In a trial conducted at the Rush University Hypertension Center in Chicago, a group of 50 patients received either an adjustment to the upper cervical vertebra, known as the atlas, or a sham procedure designed to imitate the real thing but produce no benefit. Those who received the real adjustment had an average decrease of 17 points in their systolic blood pressure (the upper number) and 10 points diastolic (the lower number). These results are similar to what can be achieved by typical two-drug combination therapy for hypertension. The decrease in blood pressure lasted for at least the eight weeks of followup in the study.

Aspirin isn't totally safe, and, for many people, the side effects far outweigh any possible benefits. One of aspirin's primary uses has been to thin blood. More accurately, it inhibits blood clotting through its effects on blood platelets. Blood that's thinner flows more freely. This, in turn, reduces the workload of the heart and allows blood flow to occur at lower pressures, resulting in a lower risk of stroke and heart attack. More information is beginning to emerge.

The FDA accorded the approval based on a company-sponsored clinical study showing that fish oil does exactly what it had previously been shown to do and long known by the alternative health community, that is, lower triglyceride levels. With prescription drug status, this company is now free to make specific health claims about fish oil and aggressively sell it through cardiologists and any other doctors prescription. If this company's marketing efforts are successful, it stands to earn an tremendous amounts of money from unwitting patients who don't realize that they can obtain fish oil supplements for a fraction of the price of this prescription fish oil drug.

You know the importance of exercise, a good diet, and targeted supplements for heart health but don't forget your teeth and gum health and the importance of flossing! A growing number of scientific studies are finding definite links between oral health and cardiovascular disease. Periodontal disease is infection and inflammation of the gums. It is associated with increased levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of inflammation that is also linked with increased risk of cardiovascular disease. So, keeping your teeth and gums in good shape is one more thing you can do to promote healthy arteries and stave off heart attack and stroke.

75% of all deaths are related to our diet. Sugar and unhealthy fats promote disease, fertilize cancer, and keep our energy levels down. Since your body does not make antioxidants, you must get them from your diet and supplements. Specifically from fruits and vegetables and a whole food supplement. A healthy body composition is key for longevity. One pound of muscle burns 33 calories at rest, one pound of fat burns 3 calories. The goal is to decrease your body fat and increase your lean muscle tissue, not just to look healthy but to increase your metabolism so you can keep a healthy balance of calories-in vs. calories-out. You can decrease your body age by at least 3 years if your body composition is in the healthy range. How do you do this? Increase your amount of body movement while lessening your intake of unhealthy food.

Tylenol can cause liver damage. The active ingredient in Tylenol is acetaminophen. Unintentional acetaminophen overdoses are now the leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States. Four grams per day (equal to about 12 regular-strength Tylenol tablets) is considered the safe maximum, but that might be a bit much for some. In a study covered last year, more than a third of the subjects assigned to take 4 grams of acetaminophen daily for two weeks (sometimes in combination with other drugs) had unusually high liver enzyme levels. It’s hard to say from this study whether the increases were temporary or medically important. Large doses are the main risk, but there are reports of people developing liver troubles after taking small to moderate quantities of acetaminophen for long time periods.More on Pain Reliever Caution

When you mention the word cholesterol it automatically conjures up negative images of heart disease and clogged arteries. Everyone seems to have forgotten that cholesterol is a natural compound and is absolutely necessary for life. The dangers of the cholesterol-lowering statin drugs are well-known by now. In fact the effectiveness of statins is based on the false premise that cholesterol is the cause of heart disease. And research continues to show that despite widespread use of the various statin drugs, the number of heart attacks and deaths from heart attacks remains fairly stable. The evidence is clear that statins are very dangerous drugs and they are only minimally effective at reducing the risk of heart attacks, cardiovascular disease, or death from any cause. Fish oils, CoQ10, vitamin C, vitamin E, L-carnitine, garlic, B vitamins, magnesium, lecithin, modified citrus pectin, eliminating sugar from the diet all do a better job without any of the dangerous side effects.More on Use Nutrients For Cholesterol Not Statins

If you've got heart or circulation problems, you can save yourself a lot of money, and maybe even your life, by discussing the enormous benefits of niacin with your doctor. One of the most effective and least expensive ways to lower blood lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides) is to take 1,000 to 3,000 mg of niacin a day. Niacin lowers cholesterol and triglycerides. It reduces the blood fats called "very low density lipoproteins," which have been linked to heart disease and cancer. It improves blood sugar problems, which can lead to damage of the arterial walls. It dilates blood vessels, which improves the circulation to areas starved of oxygen and nutrients. The list of benefits goes on and on, and if that wasn't enough, B3 is cheap.
