What Every Woman Needs To Know About Menopause

If there is one stage of a woman's life that is hard to cope up with that would be her menopausal years. Menopause is defined as the stage wherein a woman's monthly period has stopped. Veering away from the common conception that menopause is a "disease," people in the medical world says that menopause is nothing but a normal and expected change in any woman's body. Menopause is a traumatic time that has to be faced by every female. It causes a host of changes in your body, and the more you know about it, the better fit you will be to get through it smoothly.

Unlike before when menopause is clouded by absurd misconceptions and myths, people now are more open in discussing the phenomenon because many studies have proven that menopause is a natural step in the process of a woman's aging. With the advancement of technology and researches, more and more women are given hope that they can still go on with their life by teaching them to discover and rediscover their purpose in life.

Most studies show that the most common determinant of menopause in women is physical changes. Exercise is a key factor in getting through menopause with a minimum of complications. A regular exercise pattern helps to limit the effects of the uncomfortable symptoms associated with menopause: hot flashes, depression, sleep disorders and irritability can all be lowered through a proper exercise plan. In addition, exercise has merit in preventing the physical aspects of menopause. Osteoporosis and heart disease are more prevalent in those post-menopause, and regular exercise can help to curb these risks.

Experts agree that the average age range of menopause in women is form 50 onwards. But there are cases wherein a woman may experience her menopausal earlier especially if she has undergone. Since menopause is associated with absence of estrogen in the body, afterthe ovaries has stopped producing them, the reproductive system gradually shuts down. Also, some surgeries, major operations and a series of therapy due to cancer and other illnesses may be contributory factors. Other causes of early menopause are autoimmune disorders, thyroid disease, and diabetes.

Basically, menopausal years are divided into three phases: the premature menopause, which is distinguished for women whose ages are below 40 years old. Next are the menopausal climax years from 50 and above and the post-menopausal, which is experienced by women 50 and above and are those prone to more serious illnesses such as osteoporosis.

Experts agree that menopause pertains to the drastic changes in a woman's life that greatly affects her physical appearance, sexual function, feelings of well-being, and overall mood. A woman is said to reach her menopause when there's an absence of menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. Some of the visible symptoms of menopause include:

Drastic change in the pattern of menstrual periods. This can be characterized by shorter or longer span of time, lighter or heavier flow of menstruation, and more or less time between periods.

Occurrence of hot flashes or hot flushes.

Profuse night sweating usually followed by a slight chill.

Sleep disturbances and trouble getting enough sleep due to physical discomfort.

Vaginal atrophy. This is characterized by thinning, drying, shrinking and thinning of the vagina in most women.

Psychological instability characterized by mood disturbances, irritability, fatigue, decreased sexual desire, and memory loss. Violent mood swings, crabbiness, and crying spells, which are usually caused by, pent up frustration due to lack of sleep are also common.

Inability to concentrate or focus on tasks properly. This is characterized by great deal of trouble focusing on things because the woman feels mixed-up and confused.

Hair issues. Women who are experiencing menopause or those who are about to experience it are having trouble dealing with hair issue due to hair loss or thinning on their head. They also experience hair growth on their face, which is quite unlikely for a woman.

Increased estrogen deficiency that leads to vasomotor instability characterized by dyspareunia, itching, dryness, bleeding, urinary frequency, urinary urgency, and urinary incontinence.

Skeletal problems and muscle pains such osteoporosis, joint pains, and back pains.

As a woman's body adapt to the ever-changing levels of natural hormones, more and more symptoms can be traced to menopause.

There are some great natural products that offer Menopausal Relief and it would be wise for women to try them before considering hormonal therapy.

One of our reader reported that after menopause, her blood pressure was creeping up and was regularly running between 130 and 140 over the mid-90s. She had a craving for something sweet but didn’t have much in the cabints so she settled for a few tablespoons of tahini with some honey mixed in.

The following morning her reading—111/83. She has tried this many times since with dramatic drops each time. The reason is that Tahini, or sesame paste, is made of ground sesame seeds, which have broad health benefits. This is a staple in Middle Eastern food best known as an ingredient in hummus. You can find tahini in the specialty foods section of your grocery store or in your health food store.

Americans love their coffee, which now averages 3.1 cups a day for the consumer. As it turns out, your morning cup of Joe may soon be considered a health food. Though tea is thought to be the all-time antioxidant leader, new research from the University of Scranton reveals that coffee is actually the frontrunner. When scientists tested the polyphenol antioxidant content of a variety of coffees and teas, coffee came out on top.

Levels didn’t vary much between brewed and instant coffee, and decaf didn’t fall far behind caffeinated. Most surprising, coffee was found to be five times better at preventing oxidation than vitamin C! As for tea, green tea leaves contained more antioxidants than instant and bottled green tea, and instant black tea fared better than black leaf tea. That’s not to say tea isn’t great. It contains another class of antioxidants called catechins, which provide numerous health benefits. Unfortunately, catechins are somewhat unstable, but according to the National Institutes of Health, squeezing a little lemon juice in your tea allows 80 percent of tea’s catechins to be absorbed by the body.

Water is absolutely required for health. Water is the beginning of life and without it, we would die very quickly. A French medical doctor, specialising in immunology, has discovered something truly fascinating about water. Dr. Jacques Benveniste has discovered certain scientific properties of water. These properties cannot be explained by conventional physics. He calls this particular brand of science digital biology. And to note: other scientists have duplicated his experiments.

Here are the tenets of his discovery:

1. When a substance is diluted in water, the water can carry the memory of that substance even after it has been so diluted that none of the molecules of the original substance remain; and

2. The molecules of any given substance have a spectrum of frequencies that can be digitally recorded with a computer, then played back into untreated water (using an electronic transducer), and when this is done, the new water will act as if the actual substance were physically present.

Dr. Jacques Benveniste (1935-2004) had proved something quite controversial, which gives concrete evidence to support homeopathy. He reportedly compared himself with Galileo because of his paradigm breaking research findings. He did not win a Nobel Prize but instead won not one, but two, of the satirical “Ignobel” prizes awarded by a gang of Harvard scientists – the 1991 chemistry prize for showing that water has memory, and the 1998 prize for a paper showing that this information can be transmitted over telephone lines and the internet.

Controversy aside, if you think about these findings for a minute you may become shocked! Water holds a “memory” that we can digitally record; and we are able to digitally re-write other water, even when the substance is no longer in it.

We have put countless things in our water, and supposedly “removed” them. Right now, there are pharmaceuticals (among other things) in the water, which no water treatment plant was ever designed to remove. Our water is holding this in its “memory”.

Your body starts out comprised of 80% water when you are born. When many people die, they are at 50% water. Now it may seem pretty simplistic to point to water as the source of aging, but proper hydration is needed for fat metabolism, to remove waste from cells, and to keep your brain healthy. We also use water for transporting nutrients and wastes, lubrication, temperature regulation, and tissue structure maintenance. It is also important to know that 48% of older adults admitted to Emergency Rooms had laboratory values indicative of dehydration. Chronic dehydration can lead to many problems such as constipation, poor performance in athletics, and can exacerbate many health issues such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, hypertension and arthritis. Proper hydration may seem simple, but things that are simple can be overlooked as valuable.

At the very fundamental level, water is truly fascinating and its properties have undoubtedly lead to the creation of life on this planet. Unfortunately, Dr. Jacques Benveniste's discovery shows us that we know very little about the truth of water. It affects nearly every aspect of our bodies; and in the near future, water will be on the forefront of many political and societal problems.

We are all best off drinking clean, pure water. It keeps us hydrated, and our body and mind functioning at their best. Knowing that water has a memory, it is best if we all do our share to keep our water clean. This involves not only what we put into the wastewater systems, but also what we put into our bodies! You don’t need the pop, coffee or milk – plain water will boots your health the fastest.

Along with the supplements and dietary changes, one of the best things you can do to prevent Alzheimers disease is start taking resveratrol. The long-term treatment of so many patients with Alzheimer’s has the potential to bankrupt many individuals as even this country! The pharmaceutical companies know there’s a fortune to make if they can come up with a drug to treat it. Researchers, however, have already learned that resveratrol appears to be one of the most powerful substances ever discovered for both the prevention and treatment of the disease.

In Alzheimer’s patients, amyloid peptides bind together into plaques that embed themselves between brain cells. The peptides and plaques are toxic and induce brain cells to die. Researchers have tested dozens of antioxidants to see if any would have an effect on the plaques. Resveratrol had a profound effect.

While it doesn’t appear that resveratrol can prevent the plaques from forming, it dose activates a natural protein-eating compound within the brain. These compounds called proteasomes break up and remove the plaques. Proteasomes are able to distinguish between proteins that should be present, such as neurotransmitters, and those that shouldn’t. Further research found that resveratrol delivers a second punch to the disease as well, by actually neutralizing the brain cell-killing effects of the plaques.

This is obviously the type of news that should make headlines on every newspaper in the country and the opening story on the evening news but unfortunately it won’t. Resveratrol is a natural product. Until some giant big pharmaceutical company comes up with a patentable, synthetic, prescription drug based on resveratrol, this story will remain buried. Researchers have been elated with their findings as we have reported in previous articles on this site. The truth is it’s totally safe, effective, and available so stay ahead of he loss of your brain and use reseveratrol now.

Dozens of factors can cause memory loss corresponding to that associated with Alzheimer’s disease. One that’s currently overlooked is the use of the highly popular statin drugs. One of our first recommendations would be to avoid the use of all drugs if possible. And for any that you decide to take, make sure you know the stated side effects and keep an eye out for those such as dementia and other neurological problems. The public is constantly being prescribed drugs without being informed of the ultimate consequences.

We have serious doubts that preventive drug treatment prolongs life but what is actually does is just changes the cause of death. Examples could fill a library. One example is the anti-cholesterol statin drugs. Two large drug trials spring to mind. One trial known as CARE (Cholesterol And Recurrent Events) found that the drug Pravachol reduced the risk of a heart attack by 24 percent. It also found that it increased the risk of women developing breast cancer by 1,100 percent. The PROSPER trial followed 5,000 participants, aged 70 to 82 years old, who took a statin for three years. The drugs reduced deaths from cardiovascular disease by a remarkable 24 percent. However what wasn’t well publicized was that those on statins developed cancer at a higher rate, and the drug showed no benefits whatsoever in women. And statins aren’t the only drugs where the patients don’t get the full story. The list is seemingly endless. One of the most common methods of treating high blood pressure is through use of diuretics most commonly known as water pills, and hydrochlorothiazide is one of ones most frequently used. Studies have consistently shown that these diuretics significantly increase the likelihood of developing diabetes. How many doctors tell their patients that?

A study was just published in the December 2007 issue of the journal Bone (Effect of dietary B vitamins on BMD and risk of fracture in elderly men and women: The Rotterdam Study, Bone, Volume 41, Issue 6, December 2007, Pages 987-994) that also looks at B vitamins and their affect on age-related osteoporotic fractures. A total of 5,300 individuals, ages 55 years and greater, participated in this study performed in the Netherlands. Dietary intake of nutrients was obtained from food questionnaires. Patients were then followed for approximately 6 to 7 ½ years. It was noted that there was a small but significant effect between dietary intake of pyridoxine (vitamin B6) as well as riboflavin (vitamin B2) and bone density. After eliminating other factors, it was then found that those individuals with the highest dietary intake of vitamin B6 had a significant decrease in non-vertebral fractures. The researchers concluded that increased dietary intake of riboflavin and pyridoxine (vitamins B2 and B6) was associated with higher bone density measurements. They concluded that these findings highlight the importance of considering nutritional factors in epidemiologic studies of osteoporosis and fractures.

Did you know that there are actually eight different B vitamins and are collectively known as vitamin B complex? The B vitamins are water soluble and are not stored in tissues to the same extent that the fat soluble vitamins are. Deficiency illnesses of B vitamins, such as pellagra (from lack of vitamin B3) or beriberi (from lack of vitamin B1), are not common, however, we typically do not get optimal levels of these important nutrients. Aside from proper cell metabolism, the B vitamins enhance immune function and function within the nervous system. They are also extremely important for healthy cardiovascular function. It has also been documented that adequate intake of these B vitamins can help with stress and altered mood.

For many people, hearing loss is a problem that can limit their social interaction and other parts of their life. A large number of people in the country suffer from hearing loss and some are even born with it each year. Many cases of hearing loss occur because of carelessness or because of a lifestyle in which loud noises are an everyday occurrence. Since hearing is such an important sense, there are many things you can do prevent suffering from loss of hearing.

There are three common types of hearing loss, according to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's (ASHA) web site. The first is called conductive hearing loss, where muffled or faint sounds can't be heard because of a blockage in the outer ear canal. This can occur from wax build-up or even damage to the small bones inside the middle ear. Conductive hearing loss can usually be corrected with surgery. Sensorineural hearing loss occurs when damage is done to the cochlea within the inner ear or to the nerve endings leading to the brain. This type of damage can occur because of an illness, disease, injury, or even medications. This type of hearing loss can't be corrected with a surgical procedure. A mixed loss of hearing occurs when there is damage to both the inner and outer ear.

The ASHA lists several causes for hearing loss in adults. Disease and infection can lead to a loss of hearing, as well as certain medications and traumas to the head region. People commonly associate sudden hearing loss with exposure to loud noises at work or from listening to music, but this is not always the case. Meniere's disease involves the membrane of the inner ear, and characterized by a ringing in the ear, deafness, or vertigo. Otosclerosis is a disease that affects the middle part of the ear and disrupts the movement of a tiny bone, called a stapes. Sudden hearing loss can occur when you are exposed to some sort of trauma, such as a ruptured eardrum or even a sudden change in air pressure. Noise levels can also lead to a loss of hearing if you are exposed to high levels over a prolonged time.

Hearing loss in children is a little different, mainly because the victims are a lot younger with less time to do damage to their hearing. Otis media, an inflammation of the middle ear from fluid build-up, occurs more commonly in infants and young children. Hearing loss in children from otis media is a temporary condition, and hearing returns once the fluid is gone. Congenital hearing loss in children occurs at birth, and the ASHA's web site reports that research has shown more than fifty percent of these cases are genetic. Other reasons for congenital hearing loss in children are from premature birth, maternal diabetes, or toxemia during the pregnancy.

Hearing loss, in many instances, is an avoidable problem. Many people suffer from hearing loss over the course of a few years because of their lifestyle. Others suffer from sudden hearing loss due to an accident or unexpected event. If you have damage to your hearing, consult with an audiologist or other hearing professional to find out what your options are. They can give you an idea of the many hearing devices and instruments that can help you regain your hearing to a certain extent.

The study concluded that the 20 chosen biomarkers could not predict stroke, but could help in determining the mechanism by which the equine estrogen, and progestine, administered to the women caused inflammation.

It was also noted in the study that the administering of these hormones increased risk of breast cancer, stroke and reduced the cardiovascular protection that is normally associated with natural estrogen found in a woman's body. The study was published by the Public Library of Science.

Previous studies by the Women's Health Initiative were conducted to determine why using equine estrogen with progestine, and estrogen alone increased the risk of stroke in women. The data was collected from trials where women were randomly chosen to take either estrogen and progestine or estrogen alone. The estrogen and progestine trials were halted after 5.6 years due to increased breast cancer risk.

The estrogen alone trials were halted after 6.8 years due to the increased risk of stroke and lack of cardiovascular protection. Blood samples were taken at the beginning of the trials as a baseline, and one year later. The 205 women who had strokes within the first year had their baseline samples analyzed against 878 controls.

The 138 women who had strokes after the first year of the study had their year one blood sample analyzed. The analysis found that the 20 chosen biomarkers were not useful in determining the risk of stroke. When the researchers compared the baseline blood samples to the year one blood samples, 14 of the 20 biomarkers had a significant change, which would be more than expected by chance.

Inflammation promotes atherogenic events, such as a stroke. Through the analysis of the biomarkers, the researchers hypothesize that estrogen plus progestin and estrogen alone have different inflammatory effects.

It can be seen that equine estrogens and progestin increase stroke risk through various biochemical pathways, and the chosen 20 biomarkers were not sign-posts of increased stroke risk, likely due to the intricate relationships of the hormones and natural biochemistry. The complex interaction of hormones and biochemicals, in this case, could not help elucidate stroke risk, but helped shed light on the fact that equine hormones increase inflammation in women from different, unpredicted angles.
