Brewer's yeast is a good source for most of the B vitamins and this is one of the most popular ways to take a supplement.

Vitamin C prevents many a debilitating diseases and increases the body's immunity. This vitamin can be taken with or without food. In general, about 500 mg is needed every day for general health requirements. If your health requirements need more than 1,000 mg, it must be split across multiple doses throughout the day.

Other than through medical supplements, some excellent Vitamin C Sources include parsley, broccoli, bell pepper, strawberries, oranges, lemon juice, papaya, cauliflower, kale, mustard greens, and Brussels sprouts. This particular vitamin is naturally excreted by the body when in excess. Some mammals can use their own body cells to create it. The vitamin content in food varies significantly. It is highest when a fruit is ripe and younger at the time of harvest. In order to retain the vitamin in foods during preparation, cooking or storage, fruits and vegetable must be served raw whenever possible. Prepared juices must be refrigerated and should not be stored for more than 2 to 3 days. Cut fruits and vegetables must be stored in airtight containers. Most cereals are fortified with Vitamin C. The ready-to-eat cereals contain at least 25 percent of the US RDA for Vitamin C.

Vitamin B Complex Though Vitamin B-12 is water-soluble it does not get excreted quickly in the urine, but rather accumulates and gets stored in the liver, kidney and other body tissues. Thus its deficiency may not manifest itself until after 5 or 6 years of a diet supplying inadequate amounts.

When looking out for Vitamin C supplements in the store, take special care to watch out for pesterified C, time-released C. It has not been scientifically proven that these can be absorbed easily as compared to ascorbic acid. And remember, vitamin C is only valuable when taken as a supplement to an all around healthy diet.

Vitamin B Complex Body massage creams also utilize vitamin B12 as their main constituents. Cobalmine (another name for vitamin B12) transmits its anti-fatigue and anti-stress elements to the skin.

Vitamin C is crucial to optimal immune-system function and reduces the symptoms of colds, asthma and allergies. Vitamin C also plays a central role in the healing of wounds and broken bones and in recovery from surgery, mostly because Vitamin C is vital to the formation of collagen.

Vitamin C also increases athletic ability due to the flexibility of elasticity collagen provides. Collagen also increases the time line of noticeable aging. Millions would appreciate a Facial and Body Cream with high levels of Vitamin C to increase or at least slow down the loss of our own collagen levels. As an anti-aging cream, rose hips is highly recommended.

Introduced collagen into the body that is not part of our own DNA may have an adverse affect down the road. The use of it may cause you to NEED to continue using it, which in turn will eventually cause lumpiness and maybe even elective surgery as it "dries out".

Vitamin B Complex Anemia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency can be treated by taking folic acid but it cannot correct the nerve damage also caused by B12 deficiency. Permanent nerve damage can occur if vitamin B12 deficiency is not treated.

Adequate Vitamin C intake will contribute to healthy collagen formation in the skin thus, protecting the blood vessels from trauma and bruising. Trauma and bruising of the blood vessels damages (sometimes irreparably) certain areas of the body. Even a Certified Message Therapist can cause an Elderly person to have a heart attack just by a facial massage.

Cells in the arterial walls need collagen to help them expand and contract with the beats of the heart. Collagen is also needed in the capillaries, which are more fragile.

A lack of Vitamin C may cause heart attacks and strokes initiated by blood clots as it causes muscle degeneration, which can include the heart.

The level of ascorbic acid in the blood reaches a maximum in 2-3 hours after ingestion then decreases as it is eliminated from the body either by perspiration or urination. Most is out of the body within 3-4 hours, which is why it should be supplied often throughout the day.

Vitamin B Complex Although required in small quantities, vitamin B12 (part of the Vitamin B Complex group) acts as a catalyst to numerous body processes and as such is vital ingredient for the human body.

Recommended dosage is 60-95 mg a day. This is for daily maintenance of already stable levels of good health. Daily dosage of 250 mg is recommended for supplement. Daily dosage of 500 mg is recommended if there is an aliment of some kind involved. The need for Vitamin C increases with Age and Sickness because of the greater need to regenerate collagen therefore proper supplements will help reduce the depletion caused by age and sickness.

The body cannot utilize more than 500 mg in a 12-hour period therefore, the blood level of Vitamin C will return to its average level in 12-13 hours regardless of the amount consumed.

As a supplement, a regimen of 250 mg per day (within a 12-hour period) or 125 mg every 4 hours, As an aid to depletion, a regimen of 500 mg per day (within a 12-hour period) or 250 mg every 4 hours. As Vitamin C promotes the absorption of Calcium, and Calcium levels decrease when sick or elderly, a supplement of Calcium should be taken.

Vitamin B Complex Vegetarians and vegans acquire enough vitamin B12 unless they take supplements of the Vitamin B Complex group. They are at a risk of developing a deficiency syndrome because natural food sources of this vitamin are limited to animal foods.

If you feel you are a healthy person and take Vitamin C supplements only when ill, then this is the recommended daily supplement that should be taken.
35-50 mg to age 14
60 mg over age 14
80 mg during pregnancy
100 mg during lactation

Consuming more Vitamin C than the body can utilize in one intake will result in an increased risk of kidney stones developing due to the conversion of excess Vitamin C to oxalic acid. This could cause interference with the normal metabolism of Vitamin B-12 and symptoms of anemia, skin rash, diarrhea and low blood sugar.

Vitamin B Complex Bacteria exclusively synthesize vitamin B12. Streptomyces griseus, a bacterium once thought to be a yeast, was once a source of vitamin B12.

Eating orange mean absorbing vitamin C to our body, is that right? Probably yes because orange is rich with this nutrient. Vitamin C is a very essential nutrient for human body because its play a great role as a powerful antioxidant.

Thus, it will prevent you from free radicals that can damage organs, tissues, and cells in the body. The antioxidant is also used to prevent and treat the common cold and flu syndromes. In a word, vitamin C is fundamental in preserving healthy immune system.

Another important function of vitamin C is in the formation of collagen, the connective tissue basis, which is mostly found in skin, teeth, and bones. This vitamin is then needed to give support and shape to the body, to help heal the wounds, and to maintain healthy blood vessels. Some studies have also linked vitamin C with its ability to prevent a number of cancers, to reduce the risk of heart disease, to prolong life, and to keep skin healthy.

Known also as ascorbic acid, vitamin C is water-soluble and cannot be stored in the body or kept for later use. The body uses what it needs and the rest is passed in the urine. Thus, it should be taken every day so that you obtain adequate quantity of this vitamin to stay healthy. Consuming foods high in vitamin C is a certainly the perfect way to fulfill it.

Vitamin B Complex A deficiency may occur as a result of an inability to absorb B12 from food and in strict vegetarians who do not consume any animal foods. As a general rule, most individuals who develop a vitamin B12 deficiency have an underlying stomach or intestinal disorder that limits the absorption of vitamin B12.

Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits are great sources of vitamin C. You can also find vitamin C in fresh vegetables like tomatoes, cabbage, asparagus, and green leafy vegetables.

As a substitute, you can also take supplements to complete vitamin C requirement in your body. Natural vitamin C supplements are usually made of rosehips or citrus fruits. These supplements are usually available in tablets or capsules, making it easier for you to acquire sufficient amount of vitamin C; that's if you don't have enough time to eat those fresh foods.

There are some useful tips for you in consuming vitamin C properly:

1. The first tip is: cook vegetables in the soup and you'll get the vitamin C in the broth. As it is a water-soluble vitamin, you can lose it when you boil foods.

Vitamin B Complex In combination with other B-group vitamins, vitamin B12 ensures the smooth functioning of vital life processes of the human body. It is important for maintaining a healthy nervous system and DNA production.

2. Do not store or soak vegetables and fruits in water, as it will lose the vitamin C!

3. Combine vitamin C with other nutrients in order to get the maximum benefits from each nutrient.

From now on, don't you ever forget to consume vitamin C as it is very important for your body. Eating fresh foods is good. However, taking supplements is also a helpful way to get this vitamin.

Vitamin B Complex The body's ability to absorb vitamin B12 is reduced with increasing age. Older people are often detected to have a more potent vitamin B12 deficiency, even in cases where they do not suffer from pernicious anaemia.

Okay, so you think you are doing pretty well with your diet. You prepare most of your meals at home, don't eat much junk food and aren't a fast food eater only rarely. You think vitamins are pretty much nonsense?particularly since you are eating so well?and besides, you feel pretty healthy.

Well let me rain on that parade a little.

Consider this. In order for nutritional researchers to determine the required levels of nutrients, diets must be designed of known nutrient content with a specific deficiency in the nutrient being studied. Then varying doses of the nutrient can be added to the diet to determine at what level symptoms of deficiency disappear.

In the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a vitamin C-depleted real meal menu is described. The diet consists of the following choices:

Breakfast: Apple Juice, Applesauce, Raisin Bran, Shredded Wheat, Unprocessed bran, Hominy grits, Cream of Wheat, Eggs (scrambled or hard poached), Cheddar cheese, French toast, Syrup, Yogurt (plain or strawberry), Bran muffin, Glazed doughnut, Mini bagel, Cream cheese, White toast or bread, Wheat toast, Margarine, butter, Honey, Peanut butter, Sugar substitutes, Low-fat cream cheese, Coffee (regular or decaffeinated), Tea (regular or decaffeinated), Cream, White milk (whole, 2%, or skim), Chocolate milk, Buttermilk.

Vitamin B Complex A clinical study in Poland found taking just 300 mg of vitamin B-6 every day for two months (along with adequate amounts of vitamin B12, that is, 1000 micrograms weekly, and folic acid, 5 mg daily) cut homocysteine levels in half. This shows the value of the Vitamin B Complex group.

Lunch: Chicken noodle soup, Cream of chicken soup, Croutons, Escalloped chicken, Pork chops, Brown gravy, Garlic herb pizza, Grilled cheese sandwich, Tuna chunks, Yogurt (plain, vanilla or blueberry), Rice royale, Black beans, Rice, Pretzels, Applesauce, Diet Jell-O?, Cookies (chocolate chip or sugar), Ice cream (vanilla or chocolate), Bread (white or wheat), Saltines, Margarine, Butter, Sour cream, Peanut butter, Mustard, Mayonnaise, Sugar substitute, Relish, Coffee (regular or decaffeinated), Tea (regular, decaffeinated or iced), Cream

Dinner: Chicken and rice soup, Cottage cheese, Croutons, Fried shrimp, Roast beef, Brown gravy, Macaroni and cheese, Cheeseburger, Chicken salad, Yogurt (plain or peach), Pinto beans, Rice, Diet Jell-O?, Vanilla ice cream, Angel food cake, Bread (white or wheat), Margarine, Butter, Peanut butter, Coffee (regular or decaffeinated), Cream, Tea (regular, decaffeinated or iced)

Evening Snacks: Peanut butter crackers, Graham crackers, Chocolate chip cookie, Popcorn, Ginger ale, Diet cola

Vitamin B Complex Even today, the importance of vitamin B is cultivating new roles in the world of beauty. Dermatologist Leslie Baumann, MD forecasts topical vitamin B and its multiple derivatives as key ingredients in future anti-aging products.

If you review these choices you should note something familiar. They are the very foods that the majority of people now consume! By eating these foods a person will restrict vitamin C intake to less than 5 mg per day. The bare minimum RDA (Recommended Daily Alolowance) so far established for vitamin C is 90 mg per day for men and 75 mg per day for women — and this is highly contested as being far too low. There is a huge body of research now demonstrating that humans need several hundred milligrams (some believe more than a thousand) per day to achieve optimal health.

Vitamin C is a critically important nutrient for humans since our bodies are unable to synthesize it. In the wild, fruits and vegetables would be the main source. Vitamin C bolsters the immune system and is critical to connective tissue integrity and health. In its absence, the nutritional disease scurvy occurs resulting in a sort of meltdown of the basic structure of the body. Teeth fall out, internal bleeding occurs and it can cause a miserable death. In days gone by, ancient mariners feared the disease more than capsizing. But left out to sea long enough with only bread and salted meat they were almost sure to suffer it to one degree or another

Vitamin B Complex Pantothenic acid and biotin are the last two Vitamin B-complexes. Pantothenic acid is used in the breakdown of carbohydrates, lipids, and amino acids while biotin functions as a coenzyme in carboxylation reactions.

Heart disease is a leading killer in modern society. Dental disease is epidemic. Both of these conditions can be initiated or fostered by vitamin C deficiency. There presence may in fact be the very marker that vitamin C deficiency is widespread. Coronary and cerebral vessels lose their integrity leading to heart attacks and strokes, and periodontitis (gum recession, bleeding and oral infection) leads to loss of teeth, foul breath and seeding of the body's organs with pathogens.

Vitamin C is not a silly nutrient to be ignored or played with. Don't assume that because you seem healthy at the moment that chronic degenerative disease is not incubating within. In fact, if you are eating exclusively processed modern fare, you can count on it.

Convert the diet to more fresh and raw foods (See authors The Thinking Person's Master Key to Health (CD), http://wysong.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WOTTPWS& Product_Code=EDCD21&Category_Code=EDUAIDS&Product_Count=0. Note that there were no fresh foods in the test diet. And certainly taking daily vitamin C supplements (500-1000 mg per day) is prudent insurance given that normal dietary fare is clearly vitamin C deficient.

. (Am J Clin Nutr, 1997; 65(5):1434-40.)

Vitamin B Complex To maintain vitamin B12 status, the alternatives to high oral doses of cobalamin (500-1000 micrograms daily) are routine intramuscular injections at a dosage of 1 mg per month. This also helps to lower homocysteine levels in the blood, thereby reducing the probability of heart diseases and strokes.

It is important for maintaining a healthy nervous system and DNA production.

Vitamin C and the Importance in Health and Disease Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is essential for normal growth and the maintenance of practically all the body tissues, especially those of the joints, bones, teeth, and gums. It protects one against infections and acts as a harmless antibiotic. It promotes healing and serves as protection against all forms of stress and harmful effects of toxic chemicals. It helps prevent and cure the common cold. It also helps in decreasing blood cholesterol.

This vitamin is found in citrus fruits, berries, green and leafy vegetables, tomatoes, potatoes, sprouted bengal, and green grams. A deficiency can cause scurvy marked by weakness, anaemia, bleeding gums and painful and swollen parts, slow healing of sores and wounds, premature aging and lowered resistance to all infections.

Vitamin B Complex The authentic sources of vitamin B12 (part of the Vitamin B Complex group) are animal foods. Meat, dairy products, and eggs contain this vitamin in substantial amounts.

The recommended daily allowance is 50 to 75 mg. for adults and 30 to 50 mg. for children. Smokers and older persons have greater need for vitamin C. It is used therapeutically in huge doses from 100 to 10,000mg. a day. It prevents and cures colds and infections effectively, neutralises various toxins in the system, speeds healing processes in virtually all cases of ill health, increases sexual vitality and prevents premature aging.

According to Dr. Linus Pauling, a world famous chemist and nutrition expert, "Because vitamin C is one of the least toxic vitamins, it is very safe to use in high doses. Your body will take exactly what it needs and excrete any excess naturally."

Vitamins are parts of enzymes you can't live without, and your body can't make. We take them for granted today, but vitamin deficiency diseases plagued our ancestors and took a long time to figure out.

Vitamin C is found in fruits and vegetables, and Scurvy, caused by lack of vitamin C for many weeks or months, wasn't identified until people were separated from plants for long periods of time – and that first occurred when they built ships that could go on long voyages.

The crew of Magellan's voyage around the world in 1519 got scurvy, and in 1600 a British report showed 10,000 sailors had died of scurvy in 20 years. In 1747, James Lind, the ship's physician aboard the HMS Salisbury, conducted an experiment on 12 sick men. He divided them into six groups and fed them all the same diet, but gave each pair a different supplement: apple juice, sulfuric acid, vinegar, a mix of spices, sea water, or citrus fruits.

The two men given the oranges and lemon recovered immediately and were back at work in six days. The men who had apple juice improved, but not enough to work. None of the others got any better. Lind's report led to lemon juice rations on long voyages – and sailors called "limeys."

Without vitamin C you don't make collagen, essential to connective tissue, so your gums bleed, teeth loosen, joints and muscles ache, and eventually you die. Any reasonable diet that includes fruits and vegetables gives you enough, so scurvy is rarely seen in North America today.

What about the Eskimos? Most animals, except humans, make their own vitamin C and it's possible to get enough vitamin C to sustain you from fresh meat, especially liver. The word "eskimo" means raw flesh eaters.

Dr. Gabe Mirkin has been a radio talk show host for 25 years and practicing physician for more than 40 years; he is board certified in four specialties, including sports medicine.
Vitamin B Complex Another unique feature is that vitamin B12 does not rely on whole food or plant-based diet as its source. Herbivores absorb this essential from the bacteria present in the digestive system.

Vitamin B Complex Stomach and intestinal probles occur with b12 deficiency caused by the inability to absorb B12 from food and in strict vegetarians who do not consume any animal foods.

Vitamin C, also called ascorbic acid, maintains the ligaments, tendons, and other supportive tissue. It is found in fruits and in potatoes. Because it's an antioxidant it helps regulate your blood cells, keeping blood cells from becoming deformed from the toxics in the air, which in some cases can cause cancer.

The best function of vitamin C is the formation of collagen, a protein substance that keeps the cell together. Vitamin C enhances the absorption of iron. It is needed for buoyant health, vitality and endurance. It keeps your skin clear, with a fresh complexion and healthy gums and teeth. It is very important for the functions of all glands and organs. This vitamin maintains the bones and proper functioning of the adrenal and thyroid glands. It promotes healing and protects against all forms of stress – physical and mental.

So what happens if you don't take enough vitamin c? If you become deficiency of vitamin C you will have soft gums, skin haemorrhages, capillary weakness, deterioration in collagen, anaemia, and slow healing of sores and wounds. You will see yourself aging faster, thyroid insufficiency, and your resistance to all infections will be very low. Its deficiency enhances the toxic effect of drugs and environmental poisons. Mild deficiencies of vitamin C may appear in the form of lassitude, fatigue, anorexia, muscular pain, and greater susceptibility to infection. Long deficiency may cause scurvy, which is very dangerous.

Vitamin B Complex The amount of vitamin B-12 required by our body is about 4 micrograms or 4 millionth of a gram/day. Larger amounts of this vitamin need to be supplied through diet or supplementation as it does not get absorbed very well.

Scurvy is a disease that results from insufficient intake of vitamin C. This can leads to formation of livid spots on the skin, soft spongy gums and bleeding from mucous membranes. A quote from Enchanted learning.com, "Many sailors on long trips got scurvy, which at first debilitates and then kills the victim. When the cause of scurvy was determined to be a dietary deficiency, limes and other foods high in vitamin C were brought on long sea journeys, putting an end to the problem of scurvy. Bringing limes aboard is why sailors used to be called "limeys."

You can find vitamin c in fruits and vegetables. But most food fall short or loose their source when it is cooked. To get the full benefits you will have to eat fresh fruit and vegetables. Taking vitamin c supplements is also another great way, taking a supplement can help you get the require amount you need everyday.

Vitamin B Complex Vitamin C provides detailed information on vitamin C, benefits of vitamin C, topical vitamin C, vitamin C creams and more.
Finding fruits containing vitamin C is quite easy. All you need is a quick visit to your local fruit store, and more than likely, you will find an abundant supply of fruit that contain vitamin C.

What you might want to know is that not all fruits are equal when it comes to the quantity of vitamin C within them. In addition to this, the fruits that people commonly thought to have high amounts of vitamin C, actually have far less in comparison to the others containing this important nutrient. An example of this would be the over-rated orange.

For quite some time now, the orange has always been displayed to the public as the symbol of vitamin C. Every time there is a commercial or story related to this nutrient, you would find the orange sitting at its side. Somehow, this sneaky fruit seemed to steal the spot light from big contenders like the acerola, tropical guava, baobab, and the champion of all, carrying thirty times more vitamin C than the orange, the one and only, camu camu!

Vitamin B Complex Anemia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency can be treated by taking folic acid but it cannot correct the nerve damage also caused by B12 deficiency. Permanent nerve damage can occur if vitamin B12 deficiency is not treated.

Okay, so these big contenders are not that easy to find in your neighbourhood fruit store, except for the kiwi of course. But let's face it folks, they are the champions, and should be treated as so.

Now before you decide to plan a major mission that will take you into the depths of the Amazon rainforest, and where you might have to come face to face with some nasty creatures you haven't even heard of, just so that you can get your healthy dose of vitamin C, take a deep breath and listen up first. Yes, the orange is over-rated, but just by drinking one glass of freshly squeezed orange juice; you will be getting more than the recommended dietary allowance of vitamin C for the day. Still want more? No problem! There are many other fruits like guava, peppers and the kiwi (which has four times more vitamin C than the orange) that you can easily find in your neighbourhood fruit store.

Vitamin B Complex To avoid Vitamin B1 deficiency, include wholegrain cereals, oats, and rice to the diet. Also, grab some pineapples, pork, and nuts to maintain the supply of Thiamine.

Vitamin B Complex Many of these symptoms are very general and can result from a variety of medical conditions other than vitamin B12 deficiency. It is important to have a physician evaluate these symptoms so that appropriate medical care can be given.

There are many vitamins that make up a part of a healthy daily diet, but perhaps none have been as widely studied as vitamin C – also know as Ascorbic Acid. This water soluble vitamin plays a role in many important bodily functions. Since it is water soluble, it must be continuously replenished because what the body does not use is eliminated via the urine.

Vitamin C has been studied for everything from its ability to fight off colds and flu to the possibility of preventing cancer. There is still much excitement surrounding the power of vitamin C, and it is still the subject of much ongoing research.

The recommended daily intake of vitamin C is 60mg. While vitamin C supplements are widely available, inexpensive and easy to take, the foundation of vitamin C intake is still a healthy and varied diet. Fortunately, there are many fruits and vegetables which are delicious and rich in vitamin C, including of course the wonderful orange. One orange supplies a full 65mg of vitamin C, while a single slice of kiwi fruit can have as much as 180mg per slice. In addition, guava fruit, orange juice and grapefruit juice are delicious sources of vitamin C.

Vitamin C is one of the most common of all vitamin supplements, and it has been taken by many people for a variety of reasons. From preventing colds and flu to helping in the fight against cancer, vitamin C supplements have been widely studied for many years. Most vitamin C supplements will be either 500mg or 1000mg strengths.

Vitamin C works well along with vitamin E and other antioxidant vitamins, and many people prefer to use the two supplements together in balance, or to take a daily multivitamin that contains both elements.

While there are no known problems associated with an over-abundance of Vitamin C, it is a good idea to stick within recommended daily allowances. Overdoses of vitamin C can cause diarrhea in some people, especially as the body adjusts to higher levels of the vitamin. Those who develop such symptoms are advised to cut down on the amount until their bodies have had a chance to adjust.

The most well known vitamin C deficiency is a disease called scurvy, and while scurvy is rarely seen today, vitamin C deficiencies can manifest in other ways, including such symptoms as reduced healing of wounds and poor skin tone.

Vitamin B Complex The liver is the main site for storage of vitamin B12 (part of the Vitamin B Complex group) in the human body.
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid is found in many of our "every day" foods and is essential to keep our bodies running at an optimum.

Vitamin C has several key uses:

It aids our bodies by helping form collagen which is an important protein that creates new tissue so that we can grow and/or repair any damage to our organs.

It is also an antioxidant which means it blocks some of the damage that can be caused by free-radicals which can build up as a result of our bodies transforming food into energy.

The human body cannot produce vitamin C on its own; therefore it needs to be made a part of our daily diet.

Vitamin B Complex To avoid Vitamin B1 deficiency, include wholegrain cereals, oats, and rice to the diet. Also, grab some pineapples, pork, and nuts to maintain the supply of Thiamine.

Symptoms of a vitamin C deficiency include -

-	Anemia ( Vitamin C aids absorption of iron )
-	nose bleeds
-	easy bruising
-	dry skin
-	inflammation of gums
-	decreased immunity to infection
-	higher risk of developing cancer
-	lung related problems

The average amount of vitamin C needed for an adult is 80-100mg per day. The body cannot store vitamin C, it will excrete any excess, and therefore this amount needs to be included in the diet every day to maintain health.

There are many foods that contain vitamin C. Most fruit and vegetables contain some vitamin C. Ripe food will contain more than unripe. Some examples of food with higher vitamin C content are-

-parsley
-broccoli
-bell pepper
-strawberries
-oranges
-lemon juice
-papaya
-cauliflower
